Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake:
  • Preheat your oven to 175°C (347°F).
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar for about 4-5 minutes until the mixture is pale and frothy.
  • Add the milk and vegetable oil, and briefly mix to combine.
  • Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder, and gently fold them into the batter until well combined.
  • Grease and flour a tart pan, then pour the batter into the pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool slightly before removing it from the pan.
  1. Prepare the Coffee Syrup:
  • Dissolve the instant coffee in the milk.
  • Once the cake has cooled slightly, pour the coffee mixture evenly over the cake to soak it.

  • In a saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, starch, and flour. Mix these ingredients while still cold to avoid lumps.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and starts to boil.
  • Remove from heat and add the vanilla and cream. Stir until the custard is smooth and well combined.
  • While still hot, pour the custard over the cake, spreading it evenly.
  1. Finishing Touches:
  • Allow the cake to set for 2-3 hours in the refrigerator.
  • Before serving, sprinkle cocoa powder or chopped chocolate over the top for a beautiful finish.
